I Just Can't Do It

I have two confessions for you.
  1. I am unable to make a chocolate chip cookies. My grandma Burke made fabulous ones (I am sure my other grandma's make good ones, too...I just don't remember) and my mom makes KILLER ones...but I.CANNOT.BAKE.THEM. I have tried. I even went so far as to try and make them at my mom's house, using her ingredients and mixer and oven, but they still don't turn out the same.
  2. I really love rice crispy treats. So do the boys. But, when I make them they look and taste like concrete blocks. This really makes me sad. I mean, a box of rice crisps, bag of marshmallows and a stick of butter is cheap, like less then $5 for a HUGE pan of delicious stickiness. To buy that many treats in a box would cost at least twice that. So, we sit. And miss out. And wait for rice crispy treats to go on sale.
What can you just NOT do that seems like it should be a simple thing that E.V.E.R.Y.B.O.D.Y else can do?

10 Words to brighten my day:

I am really bad at fractions. Actually, math in general, but it seems that I'm always in a conundrum about what 3 1/2 times something is {or any other mathematical equation}- I usually just use the initial measurement and measure it out 3 1/2 times {or whatever the amount may be}. It is a pain, but I'd rather have it right then have the recipe taste wrong in the end because I guessed incorrectly!

I am also really bad about calculating tips and I actually go into a cold sweat when Troy's not there to handle the tab. Sometimes I'll use my cell phone, other times I count on my fingers but it always takes me twice as long as everyone else to figure it out and then I feel like they're all staring at me like, "What is the big deal?!"

My chocolate cookies like I told you before taste fine, but they also don't rise. I need to start researching some better chocolate chip cookie recipes.

Oh, and I bomb at making Jello. Every. Single. Time. It's Jello!!! Everyone can make Jello! What is my problem?!

Don't feel bad Lexi.. I am the big stink at making jello.

I don't really even attempt making any sort of cookie anymore due to the fact that they always came up short in the tasty department.

Some things I can not do...dusting! I'm awful at it. I never seem to get all the dust or think hard enough at the odd places where dust does accumulate and therefor I forget.

I also really bite the big one at ironing. I'm not good at all!

This is sad seeing as how I'm a southern girl through and through, but I cannot cook southern food at all. My jambalaya, gumbo, etouffee, and gravies are all horrible and I've just totally given up on them. My mom makes all of those really great, and I use her recipes and I've even helped her to make sure I know what I doing, but I still can't do it. On the bright side I'm good with Italian and Mexican!'
Oh, and once again this is really sad since my husband teaches calculus and I was in all the advanced math classes in high school and even took calculus in college (and aced all of them!), but I cannot deal with negative numbers - I can't even add and subtract them! For some reason I just can't wrap my brain around negatives. Thank goodness for calculators!

Hair. And I have two daughters. I'm getting better, but my hands just won't seem to make cute pigtails. Poor Allison always has plain hair. It doesn't help that even when I do manage to get a half decent set of pigtails in, she pulls them out within 10 seconds. Sara still doesn't have much hair so I at least have that excuse but it won't be long and she'll fall victim to my negative hair skills.

I am not good at laundry. I just get way too impatient. Just ask Nathan how many of his shirts I have shrunk because I didn't read the tag and just washed it with whatever I was putting in.

I am also not a very good cook. I'm getting better, but still not great. I like stuff that is very easy to make. I am gradually getting more adventurous, but I still make inedible meals regularly. For example last month I made meatloaf and put in a tablespoon of salt instead of a teaspoon. Luckily, I have a great husband and he chokes down everything without complaining.

On the rice crispy treats you are probably cooking them too long. I once complained about how mine always turned out too hard and my grandma said it is because the marshmallow is getting too hot. I don't let it cook as long and mine are much softer now.

I can NOT wash a car properly. I try really hard, but no matter what I ALWAYS miss huge spots. I don't understand how it happens, but it happens every single time. Needless to say, that is now my loving hubbie's job!

I would have to say having kids. Seems like everyone has them, but me, nope just can't. I mean that is seriously the only thing I notice these days.

I'm also horrible at dishes. It's gotten so bad that I'm not even embarrassed when company comes by and they are flowing out of my sink onto my counters. Confession: we are getting a deeper sink for this problem. Is that horrible? hehe

Don't feel too bad, I can't make cookies either. Well, really, I can't bake cookies. Cookie dough I can handle, but the actual process of putting them in the oven and having them come out not burned, mutilated, or fused together fails me.

I can't slice cheese. My arms are so weak and cheese is so strong. One of the many reasons why we have a food processor.

i use less butter than the krispie recipe calls for because i like them dry!
